Good morning to you all!
I hope you had a relaxing spring break!
We have exciting news in our room-------
Mr. Abramowski will be joining us until the first week of May. He will then come back and finish his student teaching with our room in the fall.
The students asked him about 20 questions yesterday to get to know him.
We are thrilled to have an extra hand and have someone else take a turn doing some teaching:)
Other notes:
The 4th grade group started their first literature circles. They are working hard on taking turns, being patient as others read and to really understand their new chapter book.
The 6th graders are also starting new books. They have moved up to a harder level as we get them closer to 7th grade.
In writing we are focusing on nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.
MCA testing is this month!!
Have a great week!

Happy Monday!
Mrs. Harlan asked that we remind parents that we DO have school next Monday even though it is President's Day.
Updates:
Writing groups have taken a break from grammar to do some creative writing. We are just finishing a project on how to improve a kite. My hope is they will incorporate what we just learned in grammar into their writing.
Fourth grade reading is on a longer selection about two dogs named Dot and Dud. They are rescue dogs for a ski lodge. Ask them about it if you have time. I would love to know if they can retell you the story so far and make a prediction of what will happen next.
Sixth grade students are still plugging along in our chapter books. We are planning on completing them and testing within the next week to two. From there we will move on to some skill practice for the MCA's.
That's all for now.

Happy Tuesday!
I am so excited to see that parents have subscribed to my first ever Blog!
I will do my best to inform you of what is going on and hopefully post some great pictures of the student's work:)
Yesterday was a great teacher day getting a lot of work done and lessons organized for the weeks ahead.
We have conferences January 29th and on February 2nd. I can't wait to see you all and share your son or daughter's progress.
Have a great week!

January Update
Here is an update of what has been going on in Mrs. Pomije's room.
Writing Groups:
January is flying by this month. The writing students have just finished their "Monster For Sale" poster where the group worked on describing with details.
We have now moved on to working on a variety of grammar lessons. We continue to do our daily journal writing. They have some great imaginations:)
Reading Groups:
4th graders:
They continue to work on their sight words.
We just finished a story about Bleep and Molly.
We are not reading about a mouse named Patty who has unique qualities.
6th Grade Morning:
This group chose the book When Zachary Beaver Came to Town. Ask them about it. It starts as some kids in a small town picking on a boy who is overweight and then turns into a great friendship story.
6th Grade Afternoon:
This group chose the book The Year My Parents Ruined My Life. Is is about a 6th grade girl who had to move from where she was popular, warm, had many things to do and had a cool boyfriend to a snowy town where she is a nobody. Ask your son or daughter so see what they think about the story.
Well, that is all for now.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
I will see you at conferences:)
